great post Anya.
mentorship is huge to success. especially if we're talking - self-defined success.

this post by Seth Godin adds a whole new dimension - to equity - i'm thinking.
http://sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2010/10/heroes-and-mentors.html
now even ted talks are mentors - right?
i mean - ideally face-to-face, and ideally some interaction, but if that isn't possible, the ability to learn from and model a hero... way better than what most get now.

Jacob Colker is also onto something with his mini-volunteerism.

imagine if we specified mentors to connect with students in those few minutes they're waiting for a cab or elevator. that few minutes (whether or not on a regular basis) from an authentic expert within a kid's passion - could be all the motivation they need.

Oh, we are so on the exact same wavelength. Mentoring is crucial as it helps create the supportive emotional bonds we need. Having quality mentors helps build confidence, an acceptance of failure as part of learning, and connects us with the right network of people so we can achieve our dreams. Thank you for writing this post!

This is an amazing idea! Everyone should have someone they can rely on to answer questions, be it in person or virtually. With the technology available today, why isn't this being done more often?
